August 16, 20243 min read

Hello everyone, my name is Amy Madrigal, and I'm thrilled to share my story with you through Nurses In Tech (NIT). My journey in healthcare began with unconventional beginnings, but it has led me to where I am now — a place where I am passionate about transforming patient care and nurturing future healthcare professionals.

From High School Dropout to Registered Nurse

My path into nursing wasn't typical. At just 15 years old, I faced incredible challenges that eventually led me to drop out of high school. Despite these obstacles, I found my way to nursing and my determination to pursue my newfound passion never wavered. I started on a journey that would require resilience and grit, qualities that have profoundly shaped my approach to patient care, leadership, and mentorship today.

A Career Dedicated to Long-Term Care and Leadership

With nine years of experience as a Registered Nurse specializing in long-term care, I've had the privilege of honing my skills in patient care, leadership, and mentorship. Starting as an LVN and progressing to an RN, I've dedicated my career to providing exceptional care to individuals in long-term care settings. In the last few years, I’ve had the opportunity to guide and mentor nursing assistants in their journeys, and I’m very proud to say I am committed to empowering Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs) through education and mentorship, ensuring they deliver the highest standards of care to our elderly community.

Pioneering Change through Entrepreneurship

Driven by my desire to mentor young nursing assistants as well as revolutionize patient care, I've embarked on establishing my own CNA training program, which is now officially approved by the HHSC. This endeavor reflects my commitment to elevating the standards of healthcare education and preparing future CNAs for success in their careers. It's a journey that combines my clinical expertise with my entrepreneurial spirit, aiming to make a lasting impact in healthcare.

Fostering Personal and Professional Growth through Nurses In Tech

Joining Nurses In Tech was a natural step for me. It's a community where like-minded individuals come together to innovate and create solutions in healthcare. NIT represents a catalyst for change, addressing critical areas that have been overlooked and empowering healthcare professionals to embrace technology and entrepreneurship.

Nurses In Tech has provided me with a platform to grow both personally and professionally. The community's support and accountability have challenged me to push beyond my comfort zone, fostering growth in entrepreneurship and leadership. Being part of NIT means being part of a network that encourages continuous learning and development.

Advice for Nurses Considering Career Transitions

For nurses contemplating a career transition, my advice is simple: do your research and understand your motivations. Whether it's patient care, entrepreneurship, leadership, or a shift into tech, clarity on your goals will guide your path forward. Seek out communities like Nurses In Tech that provide support, resources, and mentorship tailored to your aspirations.

Looking Ahead

My journey from a high school dropout to a Registered Nurse and entrepreneur has been defined by resilience, passion, and a commitment to excellence in patient care. Nurses In Tech has been instrumental in my growth, empowering me to embrace technology and entrepreneurship in healthcare. Together, we're pioneering change, redefining the role of nurses in tech, and creating a brighter future for healthcare.

I envision Nurses In Tech as a driving force in transforming the healthcare industry. With technology evolving rapidly, nurses have an incredible opportunity to lead innovation and shape the future of patient care. NIT is at the forefront of this movement, empowering nurses to embrace tech-driven solutions and drive positive change in healthcare delivery.
