NIT Member Spotlight: Embracing Change with Anna Sahadeo

Hello, everyone! My name is Anna Sahadeo, and I am thrilled to share my journey with you through Nurses In Tech. My path into nursing and now tech entrepreneurship has been a winding road of challenges and opportunities, all of which have shaped who I am today.

From Nursing Assistance to Registered Nurse

My journey in healthcare began in 2001 when I started as a nursing assistant in Phoenix. Nursing wasn't my first career choice; it came as my second degree, but I've always had a passion for helping people, and nursing presented itself as the perfect avenue for me to make a meaningful impact in people's lives.

Currently, I find myself at the US/Mexico border, serving on a humanitarian mission to provide medical care to migrants. This work is deeply fulfilling, but it doesn't stop there. I'm also laying the groundwork for my first business venture, focusing on supporting women with gestational diabetes. My dual roles exemplify my commitment to healthcare and entrepreneurship.

My journey to this point has been shaped by my experiences as an immigrant and a nurse. Coming to America as a teenager presented numerous challenges, but my willingness to both give and receive help has been instrumental in my journey. The support of my community and the opportunities I've seized along the way have propelled me forward.

Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Growth

Transitioning from a clinical career to entrepreneurship hasn't been easy. The resistance and uncertainties have been daunting at times, but I've learned that these challenges often signify growth and progress. Accepting this path has allowed me to embrace change and pivot when necessary, all while staying true to my mission of helping others.

Fostering a Supportive Community through Nurses In Tech

Joining Nurses In Tech has been pivotal for me. It's more than just a community; it's a nurturing environment that empowers nurses at all stages of their tech and entrepreneurial journey. Whether you're just starting or already have a business, NIT provides invaluable support, inspiration, and mentorship.

Nurses have always been at the forefront of healthcare technology, yet surprisingly, nursing still isn’t recognized as part of STEM fields. I believe getting nursing a STEM recognition is crucial as it could potentially unlock much-needed funding for nursing initiatives. Nurses In Tech (NIT) embodies this belief by supporting nurses who are venturing into the world of technology and business.

NIT also serves as a nurse business incubator, filling a critical gap in our profession. Many nurses, myself included, aren't traditionally trained in business management. NIT bridges this knowledge gap by offering guidance and resources tailored to our unique needs. This support is invaluable as we navigate the complexities of starting and growing businesses in healthcare.

Looking Ahead

As I continue to serve on the US/Mexico border and lay the foundation for my business, I am excited about the future. Nurses In Tech has equipped me with the tools and support to navigate this new chapter confidently. I am passionate about advocating for nurses' roles in technology and entrepreneurship, and I believe that together, we can redefine what it means to be a nurse in the 21st century.

I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story with you. Through Nurses In Tech, I've found a community that celebrates innovation and supports nurses in making a difference beyond traditional healthcare settings. I look forward to continuing this journey alongside fellow nurses who share my passion for combining healthcare with technology.
